Monday February 4th, I was supposed to meet with my third internship company today. Although my sprained ankle has kept me in bed for another day. This was the one that I was most excited and intrigued by. This non profit is a brewery known as Recuperable, creates their beer product from food waste by local prisoners. This company's objective is to "reintegration of prisoners and the fight against food waste". Second chances tp people and food that would otherwise go unused. This is how the non profit Recuperable" describes their mission.

Day 3 In Bed:

Some reason when you're home and the doctor orders you to stay at home and rest for 8 days, you feel relieved. You get to take a break from your obligations and just relax (catch up on your favorite Netflix shows)... But in Rome it feels a bit different. I thought I was beginning to lose my mind, thinking about all the fun and exciting things that I could be visiting, people I could be meeting, and food I could be tasting! The hardest part for me was not being able to go down the street to get my morning coffee at "Moma's".
Working From Home:
This week I will be working from my apartment! I have sprained my ankle and am not able to walk. The doctor has ordered me to rest it for 8 days, so for this week I will be working on activities that my supervisors send me through email! Today I got an email from my supervisor Sylvia at Zappata Romana and she has asked me to review some of the flyers they have had made up and see if they are eligible to English speakers and Italian speakers. Another job of mine was to review the garden plot via the architectural view they gave me! These jobs are important because being inclusive is one of my main values. Without making sure that an activity is welcoming and inviting to people from all sort of language backgrounds people feel afraid and will not show up.

Working From Home Continued: Today my job from home is to work on the computer and review ideas for Zappata Romana’s annual scavenger hunt! The non profit has sent me a few ideas and asked me to comment and add suggestions or new ideas. (Contrastive criticism) I really enjoyed this task because it gave me the freedom to add my own thoughts and reflect back on my own experiences where I have worked with little kids in a garden before. The main value that Zappata Romana has is that they do not want any activities they host to influence taking pieces of nature away. Although this may sound easy, it’s not. A lot of scavenger hunts include people taking a piece of the spot they have found with them for proof!

Today I spent most of my day in the hospital checking on my ankle, but when I arrived back to my apartment I worked on ideas for the scavenger hunt for Zappata Romana! They have invited me to come garden with them this Saturday, really hoping I feel better so I can make it, if not I will definitely give them a rain check! I really appreciate how hard Zappata Romana works to protect their land. Although they are in a protected area, I do believe that they would still hold this believe and value even if their land was elsewhere. Trying to think of components of a scavenger hunt without taking away pieces of nature is pretty difficult.. I will continue to research!
